Weather To Watch

South Australia has shivered through yet another chilly morning with temperatures in the city dropping to a nippy 1.7C.

But spare a thought for those in Yunta, 320km north east of Adelaide, who had to deal with an extremely cold start to the day, with the mercury hitting -5.3C.

Renmark and Loxton also recorded subzero temperatures, -3.8C and -3.3C respectively.

It’s the second consecutive morning of frosty weather, with very chilly mornings to last until Friday.

The mercury dipped into the negatives in parts of the Murraylands, the South-East, Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, Eastern Eyre Peninsula and metropolitan Adelaide on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported the lowest temperature recorded overnight on Sunday was -4.8C at Yunta.

Bureau forecaster Hilary Wilson said a high-pressure system sitting over the state’s South East was causing perfect conditions for the frigid temperatures.

“There has been little wind and clear skies and that lets all the heat escape into the atmosphere,” she said.

“Our weather stations record the air temperature two metres above the ground, it is likely temperatures on the ground were even colder.

“We can expect another cold morning tomorrow in many of the same areas as today.”

The outlook for the rest of the week is looking equally as chilly with the temperatures not expected to hit 20C for the next week.

Ms Wilson said the high pressure system causing the cold weather was moving slowly out of the state but that cold mornings were likely to continue until at least Friday.

On Sunday afternoon the Bureau issued a frost warning for the Mid North, Riverland and Upper South East.
