Immanuel College students had a surprise thrill when Thor actor Chris Hemsworth sent a special video message to launch their Year 12 jumper.

“Hey there, guys. I just wanted to give a big shout-out to all the Year 12 students at Immanuel College 2020,” Hemsworth said.

“Enjoy the jumper designed by your prefects, enjoy the year, have fun, see you soon.”

Each year, prefects at Immanuel College in Novar Gardens design a special jumper to be worn by their fellow Year 12 students.

Immanuel College principal Kevin Richardson said that each year its prefects also organised a creative way to launch the jumpers.

“With COVID-19 restrictions this year, they had to think outside of the box and they were fortunate that one of our students had a distant connection to Chris Hemsworth,’ Mr Richardson said.

“They made contact and it was a long shot, but it was very generous of Chris to support and encourage our Year 12s in this challenging year.

“It was very special and a tremendous surprise to everyone.”

On its Facebook page, the school posted that “the excitement went to the next level” when Hemsworth was revealed as its special guest.

“I think we are still picking the jaws up off the floor! Well played prefects! Special thanks to Chris Hemsworth!” the post read.

The Australian actor has been keeping busy on social media from his Byron Bay home during the coronavirus lockdown.

Chris & Liam Hemsworth read James & the Giant Peach

Earlier this week, Chris and his actor brother Liam Hemsworth, who also lives in Byron Bay, joined a star-studded international cast including Meryl Streep, Benedict Cumberbatch and Australia’s Cate Blanchett for a 10-part charity reading of children’s classic James and the Giant Peach on its late author Roald Dahl’s YouTube channel.

The series was created and narrated by Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi for the Roald Dahl Story Company, which will match up to $US1 million in donations for global non-profit Partners In Health.
