Childcare centre, bulky goods stores slated for $200m Old Reynella development at former Hardy’s winery site
An enormous development at the former Hardy’s winery site in Old Reynella is taking shape, with nearly 250 homes, national brands, and a large childcare centre.

A 99-place childcare centre and two bulky goods stores are the newest additions planned for a $200m development at the former Hardy’s winery site in Old Reynella.
The 32ha site, purchased by Tarac Properties in 2016, includes a 240-home residential development named Hurtle Grove on the west and commercial tenants including Voltex Electrical, Bedford Industries and Bunnings Warehouse on the southeast.
The childcare centre is the first development announced for the remaining northern 7.2ha parcel of land, which includes state and local heritage places and landscaped gardens.
Tarac Properties chief executive Jeremy Blanks said the centre would give young families moving into Hurtle Grove “access to childcare right on their back doorstep”.
“It’ll fill a need,” he said. You’ve got Reynella Primary School very close, and you’ve got a range of high schools.”
“The childcare centre itself is, importantly, repurposing a local heritage item, which is the building locally known as Sid’s Cottage. It’ll be reusing that building and expanding the footprint to make it usable. “
Tarac Properties is still seeking an operator for the childcare centre at 26 Reynell Road.
Mr Blanks said he was in the “closing stages of discussions” with two national bulky goods tenants to lease land opposite the Bunnings.
He said more than $200m had been invested in the project, and about 200 of 240 homes in Hurtle Grove had been sold.
Tarac Properties has also applied to demolish a local heritage place, Carew Cottage, which Mr Blanks said was in “very, very poor condition” and did not meet the criteria for protection according to heritage assessments.
The demolition application said the cottage is part of the site’s northern 7.2ha parcel of land, which Tarac Properties wants to use for “residential, retail, commercial and community activities, while retaining and repurposing the existing valuable state and local heritage buildings”.
Mr Blanks said he did not yet have firm plans for the Carew Cottage spot or the remainder of the land, as architects work to prepare a masterplan.
