Cheeky life hack goes viral revealing $6 for unlimited carparking in Adelaide CBD

Carparking in Adelaide could cost up to $40 for a full day, but one worker has found a way to cut it to $6. Find out how.

Revealed: Epic life hack unlocks Adelaide CBD’s cheapest parking

Parking the car has become rather expensive, but one Adelaide worker has gone viral for finding a way to cheat the system, paying only $6 for “unlimited” parking.

An SA local going by the name of Tank shared his cheeky life hack with comedy/sport trio Kick It Forward – Giorgio Savini, Josh Garlepp and Harry Fitzgerald – who shot to internet popularity for their funny skits and who also run their own podcast.

Working in the Adelaide CBD, Tank’s letter to the lads said he’d park in a multistorey carpark – which he did not identify – and take the ticket as normal. A full day of parking would ordinarily cost him between $35 and $40.

“However, when it comes to around 5pm, I will then book an online carpark reservation for the same carpark for around 15 minutes through the website, costing me $6,” Giorgio Savini said, reading Tank’s message on the Kick It Forward podcast on Thursday.

“I receive a four-digit code that grants me access in and out of the car park as if I wasn’t already in there.

“So every day after work I will walk back into the carpark, enter my code into the machine so the system knows my car is inside the carpark, then exit using the same code three minutes later.

“I’ve found this also works for weekends too, meaning I can have 100 beers on Friday, then have 100 beers on Saturday, leave my car in the same carpark over the weekend, then use my scheme on Sunday to get out for $6.”

Tank’s parking plot was lauded for its ingenuity, Josh Garlepp calling it a “great workaround” for “unlimited” carparking, but Harry Fitzgerald found a small concern if the car had been parked up ahead of a big weekend.

“Imagine going to the multistorey in the city when you’re hung one morning to pick your car up,” he said.

Since sharing the life hack nearly 500k people have watched the Kick It Forward snippet across TikTok and Instagram.

Tank did not reveal the car park nor the operator for which he used the hack.

An Adelaide City Council spokesman confirmed the hack could not be used in UPark lots in the CBD, which use a different system than privately owned carparks.

A Wilson Parking spokesman said the hack had not affected their sites.

The Advertiser has also contacted Care Park.
