An Adelaide man who allegedly posted social media comments in support of the Christchurch mosque massacre last year has pleaded guilty to several weapons possession charges.

Chad Rolf Vinzelberg, 38, pleaded guilty in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today to eight counts of possessing a prohibited weapon.

Police say they were led to Vinzelberg’s Smithfield home, north of Adelaide, after he posted online comments and photos that showed him with a firearm, following the mass shootings in New Zealand on March 15 last year.

Officers seized a fake pistol, an extended baton and two flick knives from under his mattress, and a medieval mace and crossbow from his shed.

In an interview, Vinzelberg told officers he bought the fake pistol at a garage sale several years ago, and the other weapons were bought online, on Gumtree or at a shop at Salisbury.

His defence lawyers previously said a lot of the seized weapons were mounted ornamental items found in what Vinzelberg referred to as his “man cave”.

Vinzelberg’s lawyer requested an adjournment on Tuesday to seek a medical report on her client.

The case was adjourned until May 19.
