An Eyre Peninsula woman has been left bloodied and bruised after being hit by monster hailstones during the wild storm that tore through the state on Thursday.
Ungarra local Catherine Gail was hit in the face and head by hailstones the size of golf balls while rushing to move her car outside.
“I got hit in the face and the back of the head, and it was just absolutely pelting everything,” she told 7News.
“It hurt at the time, and I did see stars for quite a bit. I’ve got a bit of a headache, but I don’t feel too bad.”
Further up the coast, an Arno resident was also left injured after being hit by falling hailstones.
The Eyre Peninsula was hit the hardest by the storm with many locals left with damaged homes and cars, including local Susy Gerney whose patio roof was left littered with holes by hail stones.
“It was really scary stuff,” she said.
“It was white everywhere.”
More than 66,000 lightning strikes were recorded during the storm, with about 33,000 of those over land.
