A notorious beachfront Carrickalinga house with commanding sea views has sold.
A South Australian has bought 9 Gold Coast Drive, a partially built foreshore property that has been left to decay on one of the state’s most sought-after coastal addresses.
The house was sold under instructions of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank which took possession of the property from former owner and embattled businessman Stephen Marks in March 2019.
Selling agent, Elders Real Estate Normanville’s Zackary Gawley, said the new owner will be a “local hero” cleaning up the ”eyesore”, which sits on a 750 sqm block.
“There was heaps of interest, more than I’ve ever had on any property,” he said.
“Even now I’m still getting 3-4 calls a day. Interests was all people from SA as far as I could tell.
“I believe it will be knocked down and a new home will be built.”
Settlement on the property is next month.
The house has remained unfinished since Yankalilla Council issued Mr Marks a stop-work order in 2015 after complaints the house was being built taller than approved.
That triggered a protracted court battle between Yankalilla Council and Mr Marks, who was also at the centre of a class action claim against his company’s management of the Marina St Vincent.
The council approved a demolition application on the property which lapses in March.
Mr Gawley would not disclose the sale price until settlement.
The most recent Gold Coast Drive sale, a modest single-storey weatherboard house on 727 sqm with inferior coastal views, went for $1.26m.
