An elderly Nuriootpa man has been arrested and charged with causing the death of a 53-year-old man after his truck collided with a white Ford near Kapunda.

A 79-year-old Nuriootpa man has been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, after his truck collided with a car outside of Kapunda on Tuesday.
Just after 1pm, major crash investigators and emergency services were called to Fords on the Thiele Highway about 10 kilometres outside of Kapunda, after reports of a serious crash involving a truck and a white Ford sedan.
SA Police released a statement on Tuesday afternoon confirming that a man had been arrested for causing the death of a 53-year-old Gawler man, who died at the scene.
The truck driver, a 79-year-old Nuriootpa man was transported to hospital for mandatory testing and has since been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving. He was granted police bail to appear in the Tanunda Magistrates Court on January 14, 2025.
The trucking company – Mantina Quarries – released a statement confirming one of their drivers was behind the wheel during the “tragic collision” on the highway.
“Sadly, the driver of the car has lost their life,” the statement said.
“Our thoughts are with their family and friends as police begin their investigation.
“Our truck driver was taken to hospital for a precautionary check up and we are providing counselling support.”
Following the crash, the Thiele Highway was closed and traffic was diverted onto The Gap Road and Schwartz Road. Combination heavy vehicles are advised to find an alternate route.
