A man from Victoria has died after a crash between a car and a motorcycle near Port Augusta. The driver of the car involved has been charged.

A Victorian man has died after a car and motorcycle crashed near Port Augusta on Friday.

Just after 9.30am, police were called to the intersection of Footner Road and the Augusta Highway after reports of the crash.

The 65-year-old motorcycle rider died at the scene.

His passenger, a 59-year-old Victorian woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

She was taken to the Port Augusta Hospital.

The driver of the car, a 29-year-old Port Augusta woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.

She was later arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious harm by dangerous driving and aggravated driving without due care.

She has been bailed to appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on July 4.

Major Crash officers attended the scene of the crash and are investigating the circumstances.

The Augusta Highway was closed, but has since re-opened.

The man’s death is the 17th life lost on South Australian roads this year compared to 30 at the same time last year.

It is the third motorcycle fatality.
