The gusher on Anzac Highway was disrupting traffic as southbound traffic was down to two lanes.
The front yard of one house flooded before emergency services used a tarp to prevent more water from flowing in.
It’s the second major pipe burst before lunch today.
This morning, water from a busted main threatened to flood homes and cars on Jeffcott St on the corner of Barton St West.
Police knocked on residents’ doors just before 6am on Monday and told them to remove cars parked on the east side.
Randall Calbert said he woke up a “swimming pool” in front of his house.
“The water was up to my doorstep,” he said.
Resident Gill Ireland said the frequency of pipe bursts around metropolitan Adelaide was “pretty concerning”.
A member of the public raised the alert about the leak on the street at 5.20am but police reported the incident had become more significant.
Water sprouted 1m high near the traffic lights and one lane citybound was shut.
Allwater crew first arrived at 7am to assess the damage and SA Water staff began delivering water to residents just before 8am.
Council workers rolled up their pants and waded knee-deep into the water to clear drains of debris. The water quickly subsided after that.
Traffic remained slow as workers tried to repair the damage. Water was turned off at 7.30am.

Repairs at Jeffcott St were completed and water restored to residents by 2pm on Monday.
