Burke Urban’s 350-home Murray Bridge development is about to kick off

Work on a major housing project at Murray Bridge will begin within months as developers ride of a wave of momentum kicked off by a series of multimillion-dollar constructions.

Work on a $50 million, 350-home development in Murray Bridge will begin within the next two months, capitalising on a string of major projects around the town.

Burke Urban will today opened sales on allotments in the first stage of its Newbridge development at the former Murray Bridge Racing Club.

The project aims to ride on the momentum of a string of local developments, including RES’s $350m solar farm north of the town, Thomas Foods’ $300m abattoir at Pallamana, a $45m redevelopment of the Bridgeport Hotel and a $40m investment in Monarto Safari Park.

Marketing and sales director Olivia Burke said civil works construction including roads, power and water on the 45ha site would begin in October or November.

Work on building the first homes will start in August 2021.

The development will be built on land next to the Murray Bridge Golf Club, on the corner of Maurice and Mulgundawah Roads – also incorporating two new fairways and turning the landmark into a Par-71 championship course.

Ms Burke said the region was experiencing “an enormous amount of job opportunities and growth”, and Newbridge was the largest housing development planned in the area over the past 5-10 years.

Once complete, it will be home to about 800 people.

“Murray Bridge is an amazing township which is really its own sustainable satellite town,” she said.

“With … Murray Bridge experiencing unprecedented growth and so many projects planned for the immediate future, which will jump start local job growth, we look forward to building a strong community,” Ms Burke said.

In August, the business won development approval for the project’s first stage, which involves creating 129 allotments, ranging from 412 sqm to 1061 sqm over 23ha.

The project may also include a retirement village, tourist accommodation and child care centre in future.

The development follows the Murray Bridge Racing Club opening a new $35 million home at Gifford Hill in August last year.

Burke Urban has also flagged a 3500-home development at Gifford Hill towards the end of its Newbridge development – in about five or so years.

However, Ms Burke said that project, to house about 10,000 residents, would depend on Murray Bridge’s future growth.

Mayor Brenton Lewis said the timing was “perfect” for a major housing development in his town, to meet demand fuelled by industry expansion and projects such as the Thomas Foods International rebuild.
