Three of the past four Christmas Days in Adelaide have been above 37C, according to observations at the Bureau of Meteorology’s Kent Town station.
The hottest ever Christmas Day was in 1888, when the temperature reached 42.1C at the West Tce station, which is again the official Adelaide site having resumed observations since 2017.
It was the official Adelaide station from 1871-1979. Kent Town took over from 1977-2017 but the weather bureau said obstruction from nearby buildings potentially jeopardised its reliability.
