A woman has suffered facial burns at a Bunnings sausage sizzle after an accident involving a gas bottle.

Just after 12.15pm, ambulance crews were dispatched to the Bunnings Warehouse store at the Adelaide Airport precinct after several triple-0 calls.

It is understood that a volunteer tripped and landed on a barbecue gas bottle, dislodging the connector hose and shooting out flames.

The SA Sea Rescue Squadron was hosting the barbecue, which is held every Saturday by a different community group.

A 50-year-old woman helping at the stand has been taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital with facial burns, while her husband, who volunteers at the squadron, was also transported with minor burns.

A Bunnings spokesman confirmed the incident took place and said employees acted quickly using fire extinguishers.

“The safety of our team, customers and volunteers is our absolute priority and we thank them for the calm and professional way they managed the situation, as well as local emergency services for their fast response,” the spokesman said

The entrance to the store was cordoned off while employees scraped soot off the asphalt.

SA Sea Rescue Squadron has been contacted for comment.
