An eastern brown snake has cooked up an inventive hiding spot in Adelaide’s west.
As a trend of early snake activity this spring continues, the slithery critter was found tucked inside a stove on Wednesday.
Snake Catchers Adelaide owner Rolly Burrell said he was called to the Semaphore home when a woman returned home and saw the snake on the kitchen floor.
“It had come through the dog door and it was on the kitchen floor … then it went under the stove,” he said.
“We’ve removed plenty from under stoves but this would be the first I’ve done that’s been right up inside it.”
Mr Burrell said the discovery was one of 30-40 calls his company had already received for snake removals this spring as activity increased earlier than normal.
“It’s ramping up about six weeks earlier than normal,” he said.
“We’ve taken calls from all over metropolitan Adelaide already.”
Mr Burrell said snakes coming out of hibernation were on the hunt for food, most commonly in the form of mice, and also a mate for mating season.
He said anyone who comes across a snake at home should contact a professional catcher.
“Give us a call,” he said.
“If it’s inside, you can put towels under doors to keep it contained to a room.
“If you come across one outside, try to keep it in your sight without it noticing you.”
The snake found in the oven follows the discovery last month of a brown snake hanging from a gutter of a home in Adelaide's north.
