A Brompton warehouse destroyed by fire two months ago erupted in another blaze on Sunday.
The alarm was raised just after 5.30pm Sunday at the First St building, which also caught fire on July 4.
Nearly 40 firefighters rushed to the scene on Sunday and used two aerial appliances to contain the fire to the building and prevent it spreading from neighbouring businesses including Long Story Short and Storytellers distillery.
A neighbouring business said they have been in contact with the City of Charles Sturt council “about a dozen times in the last two months about people still living there”.
The business said the people choosing to live in the space come out at night time and start campfires to keep warm.
“I don’t want any of my cars damaged in my yard with what’s happening there as I have a lot of money in cars sitting here,” the neighbouring business owner said.
“It’s a big worry that there’s people coming and going from there as well.”
The business owner said the space is unsafe as there are falling down structures and piles of rubble.
“It should be bulldozed. It’s just crazy that the land hasn’t been cleared because it’s unsafe the way it is.”
The fire started in a rear shed and spread to the building already largely destroyed by the previous fire, and two occupants evacuated the property and escaped injury.
The remaining shed was completely collapsed and fire cause investigators attended the scene Monday morning with the cause determined as being by a combustion heater.
The blaze caused $60,000 damage, in addition to the $300,000 damage from the fire earlier this year.
In the previous fire, the nearby distillery businesses suffered damage to an adjoining wall which meant they had to close for weeks to fix it.
At the scene on July 4, a woman at the scene sparked a fiery clash involving nearby workers.
At the time of the fire, a group of workers engaged in a verbal stoush with the woman after she started screaming obscenities at the press at the scene.
“Your f***ing junkie brother burnt the building down you f***ing idiot,” one man said.
Another man told the woman to “get the f***ing junkies out of there”.
“Get your f***ing cars out of here,” she responded.
