MORE than 20 heavy vehicles were defected by SA Police in an inspection blitz Salisbury Highway on Friday.
In total 27 vehicles — four cars and 23 heavy vehicles — were issued with defect notices including eight trucks had major defects of the brakes that required the vehicles to be towed and five vehicles that had other major defects.
Superintendent Bob Fauser, the officer in charge of the Traffic Support Branch said that the industry must step up and act to make sure their vehicles are roadworthy.
“Again the results are disappointing and is evidence that some in the heavy vehicle industry are not taking their responsibilities in relation to vehicle maintenance seriously,” he said
“This is a timely reminder to operators and owners to have a serious look at the condition of their vehicles.”
An overnight blitz on heavy vehicles on the South-Eastern Freeway last week defected 14 trucks while descending the highway.
