Belair trainline to shut for essential works and passengers will have to take buses

Blackwood to Belair passengers will lose their trainline from Thursday for six days and will have to take the bus instead.

How do Australia’s train networks compare to one another?

Blackwood to Belair passengers will lose their trainline from Thursday for six days, for essential maintenance works.

Buses will substitute back and forth between the Blackwood, Glenalta, Pinera and Belair railway stations from first service Thursday, January 21, to last service Tuesday ,January 26, inclusive.

A Transport Department spokeswoman said the temporary partial closure was for maintenance works on the Pinera road bridge over the Belair line, adjacent to the Pinera Railway Station, which cannot be safely undertaken with trains running.

The project will also disrupt traffic on Main Road, Belair, which will be reduced to one lane in the vicinity of Pinera Bridge from 9am to 4pm each day between Thursday, January 21, and Monday, January 25.

Trains will continue to run between Blackwood and Adelaide railway stations and the substitute buses will operate as closely as possible to the current train timetables.

The maintenance works are part of a $2.3m repainting project to preserve the 1928 structure.

“Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take extra care when workers are on site,’’ the spokeswoman said.

“Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.”
