The family of an Adelaide father of three has shared their devastation after the “beautiful soul” died suddenly in his sleep.
Jason Sorre, 50, went to sleep at the family home in Craigmore but stopped breathing and never woke up.
Rachel Sorre told The Advertiser she and their three children, Jessika, 20, Mitchell 17, and Chayse, 14, were “absolutely numb” at their loss.
“We cry at the drop of a hat,” she said. “And every sound that we hear reminds us of him. It is disappointing after we realise he’s not there. We’re still forever looking for him.”
Mrs Sorre explained how her husband had gone to bed as normal on November 20, while she had fallen asleep on the couch.
When she made her way to bed just after midnight, she noticed he wasn’t breathing and called emergency services.
Mrs Sorre then watched paramedics tirelessly try to revive him, spending 40 minutes with a defibrillator.
The 48-year-old mum of three said his death has left the family with many questions about why he suddenly died, but they were trying to focus on celebrating his life.
“If he could help you, it doesn’t matter whether he’d just met you, he would do anything he could for you. He’d give you the shirt off his back if he could,” Mrs Sorre explained.
Mrs Sorre described her husband as her true soulmate, explaining how the pair had been together for 31 years.
“He was working at the Playford Tavern at the time,” she said, recalling the first time they met. “I had to do some schoolwork and I needed yesterday’s newspaper.
“So I went into the tavern and asked him if he had the paper – but from there something happened and I asked him whether he wanted to come around for a coffee after work.
“I didn’t realise he would finish work at 2 o’clock in the morning and he still rocked up with pizza.”
Mrs Sorre, who works at Aldi in Evanston, said her husband would be remembered and missed by many, adding: “He was the best person. He had so many friends.”
“He didn’t always see them, but if they had an issue or they were just upset, he’d come around and he’d forever cheer them up,” she said.
To help the Sorre family after their tragic loss, Rachel’s manager Brendon Clark has organised a GoFundMe page to relieve the cost of Mr Sorre’s funeral.
“She is the epitome of strength for her family,” Mr Clark wrote on the GoFundMe page.
“Rachel has shown time and time again how selfless and kind she is to anyone around her without asking for anything in return, but now it is time for her friends, family, colleagues and community to rise up and support her.”
