South Australian federal Liberal MP Tony Pasin has been accused of using a GoPro to covertly film a conversation between him and a senior minister.
In a speech to parliament last night, Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said Mr Pasin and his staffer had visited her ministerial office earlier in the day.
“The Member for Barker tabled a letter, he wanted me to learn about a project in his electorate,” she said.
“I started an interaction with him but he left very quickly, I also had to go to the Fed chamber.
“As he was leaving … my staff observed that he had been filming the interaction on a GoPro in my ministerial office and I asked one of my staff to go around to the Member for Barker’s office to confirm that this was the case.”
Ms King said her staffer went to Mr Pasin’s office and found that film was being downloaded onto a laptop.
She said Mr Pasin, who represents South Australia’s south-east, confirmed to the staffer that the interaction had been filmed and argued that it had happened in a ministerial corridor.
“I ask, Mr Speaker, as a result of … the discourtesy that has been shown to me and my staff by the Member for Barker and the seriousness of the breach … that you consider giving precedent to a motion referring these matters of the Standing Committee of Privileges and members’ interest,” she said.
A spokeswoman for Mr Pasin said he was on prearranged leave from parliament on Thursday – but added that he intends to deliver a statement to parliament about the matter.
“Mr Pasin denies the accusations levelled against him by Minister King and intends to respond to them in parliament when he returns from leave,” she said.
