Avoca Hotel and Castle Tavern on South Rd robbed at knifepoint

Two hotels within metres of each other were held up at knifepoint overnight and police are investigating if the incidents are the work of the same bandit.

Police are investigating if two terrifying hotel robberies which both saw staff threatened at knifepoint are linked.

In the first instance, a man entered a the Castle Tavern’s drive-through on South Rd at Edwardstown and threatened staff with a knife, before fleeing with alcohol, about 8.30pm Thursday.

About six hours later, a man entered the nearby Avoca Hotel on South Rd at Clarence Gardens and threatened staff with a knife before stealing cash.

The first suspect is described as being about 180cm tall, of stocky build with short brown hair wearing a white hooded top.

He was last seen walking west on Furness Ave.

The second suspect is described as being 168cm tall, with a large build, medium-length brown hair and wearing a white T-shirt, shorts and a hooded top.

He was seen fleeing from the southern exit doors.

Police are investigating if the robberies are linked, and urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
