He has yet to plead to allegations he attempted to murder the Frenchman, who is in his early 20s, at Belair National Park on Tuesday.

Maxime Michel was stabbed in the neck with what was believed to be a knife after he and friend Thibaut Guillou were involved an altercation with the alleged attacker about 10am.

His injuries were non life-threatening.

It is alleged Barresi fled the scene and was arrested at Belair Railway Station 20 minutes after the incident.

Police are yet to obtain full statements.

On Wednesday, counsel for Barresi — who appeared in the dock handcuffed and wearing a white forensics-style hooded jumpsuit — said their client would not be seeking release on bail.

Magistrate Bob Harrap remanded him in custody to face court again in April.

Mr Michel, aged in his early 20s, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Flinders Medical Centre with a puncture wound to his neck and a laceration to his hand. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Police believe Mr Michel and Mr Guillou recently became acquainted with the alleged attacker and that the trio had travelled to the national park by car together.

That car was yesterday seized by police as part of their investigation and was being forensically tested.

Mr Guillou, who is also aged in his early 20s, described the stabbing incident as “very strange” and told reporters: “I was scared for my friend. Maybe (the alleged attacker) wanted some money.”
