A car has ploughed into an inner-south pizza shop, narrowly avoiding injuries and leaving a damage bill in the thousands.
Just after 1pm, emergency crews rushed to Ey Fonzi Pizza Bar at Torrens Park after a blue Subaru sedan slammed into the shopfront.
Police say the 27-year-old Subaru driver returned a positive drug test and was reported for dangerous driving without due care, and police immediately seized his licence for three months.
Mahala Benjamin, 25, works at the salon next door and said “it was lucky no one was injured”.
“We heard some tyres screeching and then just a really loud bang,” Ms Benjamin said.
“We ran out there and the car had gone through the window … The inside of the shop looked like it had crushed in on itself.
“There was smoke coming from the car as well and we were worried it would catch on fire.”
Ms Benjamin and several other employees helped pull the driver out of the car, a P-plater in his 20s.
“It was just so lucky that they weren’t open or working and we’re just really grateful it didn’t go through our salon because we obviously had clients there,” she said.
Pizza bar owner Brian Hash, 35, said the shop would remain closed for the foreseeable future.
“I got a phone call and I got down here within about ten minutes,” Mr Hash said.
“The structure of the actual frontage has collapsed, the internal fittings, furniture, pretty much everything was damaged
“We usually get there earlier to prep, around 2pm, so I’m thankful that no one was there.
“We want all our customers to know that we’ll be back better and stronger than ever and we’re very thankful for all the support we’ve received.”
