A popular family holiday destination park in Aldinga will be permanently closed to tourists from the start of summer.
Aldinga Beach Holiday Park will shut its doors to all visitors from December 1, allowing only permanent residents and campers to live there.
A park spokesman confirmed the closure after a resident shared the news on a social media forum.
“Just thought everyone would like to know that as of the 1st December, the Aldinga Beach Holiday Park will cease to exist and will be closed permanently to all visitors,” the post on a community forum page read.
“It will be permanent residents and camps.
“Feel sorry for all the people that had bookings that have now been cancelled so close to the Christmas holidays that may now not be able to get other accommodation at short notice.”
Aldinga Beach Holiday Park is popular during the summer months and offer a range of Yurt cottages, deluxe cabins and affordable cabins.
The family-centred park offers guests staying at the 10-acre facility a range of activities including a pool and spa, undercover BBQ, picnic area and playground, while Aldinga and Port Willunga beaches are a short drive away.
Nick Stock, the co-owner of Silver Sands Beach Club located on Aldinga beach, said he was concerned the closure would mean fewer tourists in the area.
Mr Stock said there was a shortage of accommodation in the surrounding areas that inevitably had a negative impact on local businesses.
He said many people had discovered Aldinga since the pandemic and had fallen in love with regional South Australia but there was a severe concern over accommodation options.
“We get so many people asking us, as a local business, – where do we stay? Where do we find accommodation,” Mr Stock said.
BIG4 Port Willunga Tourist Park, which is about 8km away, has benefited from the holiday park’s closure.
Spokeswoman Ruth Hall said they had received many inquiries recently about availability from those who have lost their Aldinga booking.
Ms Hall said it was “unfortunate to see Aldinga go during its peak season” and it was “really sad to hear people are losing their bookings”.
Aldinga Beach Holiday Park was contacted for further comment.
