TAYLOR Walker had his mullet shaved off on national TV, raising more than $66,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Now the Adelaide Crows forward is again helping to shine the spotlight on the blood cancer as an ambassador for the foundation's annual Light the Night event, a twilight walk that raises money for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma research.

People will be walking along Elder Park on September 25 holding lit lanterns: gold to remember someone, white to reflect on their own blood cancer journey and blue to support others.

Taylor is the blue lantern ambassador and will join gold ambassador Stephanie Hunter and white ambassador Lily Block, 4, who has been fighting leukaemia for just over 12 months, and who inspired Walker to cut off his mullet after they met in February.

"I know first-hand the great feeling you get from doing something to help South Australians facing a blood cancer diagnosis like Lily," Walker who admitted he is not missing his mullet - said. "The more blue lanterns we can shine on the night, the brighter the hope for children like Lily will be."

Lily has spent 12 months pretty much in quarantine, but her white blood cells are just starting to recover, which means she can enjoy Light the Night event.

"I think the lanterns will look beautiful, like stars in the sky," she said. "It's not fair that I have leukaemia and I am happy now I feel better again - well, most of the time."

Ms Hunter, 26, never got to say a proper goodbye to her father, Paul, who died in May 2011, less than four months after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

"I will always regret that we didn't say our proper goodbyes," Ms Hunter, 26, a haematology/oncology a nurse, said. "I think if we had talked more openly about his prognosis it might have been easier to accept."

"None of us wanted to admit that this was the end for him, so we just carried on trying to appear strong for each other.

"I think if we had talked more openly about his prognosis at the end, it would have been a little easier to accept."

Light the Night is at Elder Park on Wednesday, September 25 from 5.30pm-8.30pm. Sign up at www.lightthenight.org.au
