After a life chasing criminals, police dog Zac will enjoy an early retirement

After a career fighting crime, police dog Zac is joining an old friend in retirement - and is looking forward to a quieter life.

Police dog Kingston retires

After more than three years tracking down and assisting in the arrest of some of the state’s most brazen criminals, police dog Zac is retiring to the kennel.

The black German Shepherd has clocked off for the final time after 55 arrests alongside handler Sergeant Marcus Whitting since his graduation in 2018.

“Possibly the funniest job PD Zac and I were involved in was the pursuit of a driver of a stolen car. Seeing PD Zac hot on his heels, the driver jumped over a nearby fence, thinking PD Zac wouldn’t be able to reach him,” Sgt Whitting said.

“But PD Zac was too smart and simply went straight through an open gate to the far right of the fence and apprehended the driver.”

A medical condition forced him into early retirement, but he is expected to live a full life in the care of Sgt Whitting and his family.

He will join former drug detection dog Farrah as the latest retiree of the family.
