Affordable housing costing just $305,000 with grants on sale in Adelaide

These are the $305,000 homes that sound too good to be true. Except they’re just 7km from the city and will be available next year.

They are on trend, modern, close to the city and available next year.

But what will get people talking the most is the price, beginning at $305,000 for eligible first home buyers.

These are the first photographs of the first 19 of the State Government’s 100 housing stimulus homes now on the market, aiming to help more South Australians get a foot in the door of homeownership, supporting jobs and local construction businesses.

The first batch are located in Findon, 7km from the CBD, and will be finished early next year.

The two-bedroom homes are on sale for between $345,000 and $400,000, but with a

first-homeowners grant of $15,000 and home builder’s scheme grant of $25,000, the cost drops to $305,000 for some.

Local builder Centina is constructing the homes, expected to be completed by early 2021.

Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink urged low- and moderate-income South Australians wanting to own their first home to inquire about the option.

“The Marshall Liberal Government’s $21.4 million stimulus to build 100 new homes has come at a crucial time for the economy, the local construction industry and for South Australians wanting to get their foot in the door to buy their first home,” she said.

“These two-bedroom homes are located just 15 minutes from the CBD, they’re close to shops and public transport and include airconditioning, built in robes, stainless steel

appliances and a dishwasher, so ready for families or singles to move straight in.”

Ms Lensink said the $550 million housing and homelessness strategy was providing a steady pipeline of work for our SA businesses and tradies, but also more affordable housing.

“We want to empower and support more South Australians to achieve their housing aspirations,’’ she said.

“At its heart, the new strategy aims to help South Australians into homeownership, prevent people falling into homelessness and ensure public housing is available for our most vulnerable.”

A total of 100 homes across the state will be built by early-to-mid 2021, with 70 sold as affordable.

Building companies completing the new homes include local businesses Urban Concept, Simonds SA, Belroc Homes, Lamar Group, Qattro, Rossdale Homes, Rivergum Homes and Centina Homes.

The homes will be single- and two-storey, with two and three bedrooms, built on land in Blair Athol, Edwardstown, Findon, Kidman Park, Kilburn, Morphettville, Mt Barker, Pooraka, Woodville Gardens, Taperoo, Tonsley, Croydon Park, Felixstow, Klemzig, South Brighton and South Plympton.

Another $400 million has been dedicated for a further 1000 new affordable homes by 2025, as part of the 10-year housing and homelessness strategy.

New affordable homes sold under the stimulus boost will be priced at no more than $419,750.
