South Australia’s newest five-star luxury hotel is almost entirely booked out this weekend and its accompanying eateries are at capacity, shaking off the shadow of the brief lockdown that pushed its opening back by a week.

SkyCity’s $330m expansion has already begun to pay dividends, with its new five-star 120-room hotel Eos almost fully booked for its opening weekend.

Premier Steven Marshall on Thursday officially opened the expansion almost 35 years ago to the day when premier John Bannon marked the opening of the state’s first casino with a game of two-up.

“There is no doubt the new SkyCity is going to be a huge drawcard for our state – it will significantly bolster SA’s entertainment and tourism industry,” Mr Marshall said.

The hotel’s first two eateries to open, Sol Bar and Restaurant and Italian diner ITL, are also almost at capacity this weekend, signalling a strong unveiling for the project, which has created more than 700 ongoing jobs and contributed 1000 jobs during its build, SkyCity general manager David Christian said.

“When we designed the new SkyCity Adelaide, which includes the stunning new expansion as well as a complete refurbishment of the heritage building, front of mind was to not only cater for the tourism market by showcasing SA producers and suppliers but also to provide a world-class precinct where all South Australians feel excited to visit and proud to call their own,” Mr Christian said. SkyCity Group deputy chairman Bruce Carter said the expansion would not only showcase the spoils of our state but also attract more investment.

“We are in a critical, once-in-a-lifetime position to make the most of our safe, clean and vibrant CBD, paired with world-class wineries and beaches in our regions,” Mr Carter said.

“It’s an enviable and vital opportunity for our state and we’re excited that SkyCity will help drive the potential for trade and investment relationships and economic tourism recovery.”

As well as celebrating premium local food and wine, Eos has a mandate to champion South Australian contemporary artists.

Across the revamped precinct are more than 900 individual pieces from 40 different artists.
