SIX years ago, Sophia Papadopoulos’s marriage was troubled and anxiety was unbearable.
She left her husband and teenage daughter but had nowhere to go until she was put in touch with women’s shelter, Catherine House.
“When I was at my worst mentally, my family found it really hard to deal with because … not everyone knows the best way to deal with someone who has severe mental health issues,” she said.
“Having a place where you can go ... and you know there are services there that are going to cushion you emotionally, is just really vital.”
Ms Papadopoulos is sharing her story as part of Catherine House’s 30th anniversary history book. She said following her stay she is able to be “more supporting, mothering (and) nurturing” to her daughter.
