The Adelaide Strikers have made South Australia proud with their breakthrough grand final win on Saturday night as they were crowned Women’s Big Bash League champions.

The Strikers won their maiden WBBL title with a 10-run victory over the Sydney Sixers in the decider.

Adelaide captain Tahlia McGrath said that their big win “hasn’t sunk in yet.”

“Every time I look down at (the medal) there’s a massive smile on my face,” she said.

McGrath said that celebrations were rife last night and that they were going to continue tonight after the team got some well-deserved rest.

“It’s been a four-year grind … we’ve fallen short a few times,” she said.

The Strikers were runners-up last season and also came close to bringing home the trophy the year before.

“We’ve been working really hard (and) have been close so many times,” McGrath said.

“It’s definitely been a long time in the making.”

McGrath said that the team was really calm and knew what they had to do to be crowned champions.

She said the last 12-18 months had been great, “but this one’s right up there” as she was a “proud Adelaide girl”.

The captain added that this is the trophy “that’s sort of been missing” from her cabinet.

“I don’t really have words for you, it’s something we’ve been dreaming about for a while.”

West Indian Deandra Dottin starred with the bat for Adelaide, hitting an unbeaten 52 from 37 balls as the Strikers set Sydney 148 for victory.

Dottin then claimed two wickets and young quick Darcie Brown also took a pair to bowl the Sixers out for 137.
