Footy fans heading to Adelaide Oval this year will have to fork out even more for game day favourites such as pies, hot chips and beer, with average prices for food and drink rising 6 per cent.
As prices rise for a third straight season, a pint of full-strength beer will set fans back $9.90, up 5.3 per cent from $9.40 in 2023, while a bucket of hot chips has increased to $6.70 – up 6.3 per cent from $6.30 last year.
The price of a classic footy pie is 30c up (5.6 per cent) from last season, to $5.70, and a small coffee will now cost supporters $5.70, an extra 20c (3.6 per cent).
A 600ml bottle of water will also increase from $5.10 to $5.40 (5.9 per cent).
The average price increase across a key basket of goods at the Oval is up 6 per cent on last year.
In comparison, fans at the MCG this year will pay $6.20 each for a Four n Twenty pie, hot chips or 600ml bottle of soft drink – up from $5.50 last season. A pint of Carlton Draught is $11.50, $1 more than in 2023.
Adelaide Oval chief executive Nick Addison said they tried to keep their new prices, which were introduced ahead of the 2023/24 cricket season, as low as possible for footy fans.
“Inflation has hit every business, and we’re no different. However, we know how important affordability is to our patrons so we’re pleased to say we’ve been able to keep most increases below the rate of inflation,” he said.
“In fact, we’re the only tier one stadium in the country with a 425ml pint of full-strength beer under $10.”
Adelaide Oval management released details of their game day food and beverage offerings on Thursday morning ahead, and fans will be spoiled for choice, with 22 new food options available around the ground.
For the first time sushi will be available, with three roaming Sushi Hiro carts serving up a selection of rolls, which will also be available in two food outlets.
Other new items include fried chicken, nachos, gourmet hot rolls and subs, fresh sandwiches and salads.
The gourmet rolls, subs and sandwiches will range from $12.90 to $16, salads between $13.90 and $15, nachos up to $14.90 and sushi items will cost $9-$9.90.
There will also be a dedicated cocktail and pre-mixed drinks bar in the eastern stand, serving cocktails on tap and ‘ready to drink’ cans.
Fleurieu Milk and Nippy’s juice flavours will also be stocked at Oval kiosks, along with a range of V energy drinks.
Mr Addison said they hope to “challenge and elevate” the traditional stadium experience.
“Fans want choice and they want quality, which means preserving things they love – like a pie and a pint on the northern mound – while also delivering restaurant quality experiences in our corporate areas and a wide selection of gourmet, fresh and healthy items across our food outlets,” he said.
The first game of the AFL season is on Sunday, March 17, when Port Adelaide plays West Coast.
