Adelaide hip hop legends the Hilltop Hoods are now comic book heroes.
Publisher Z2 Comics, famous for teaming up with acts like Gorillaz, Blondie and Cypress Hill on graphic novel projects, will work with the Hoods on a project called Noctis that will see MC Suffa, Pressure and DJ Debris battling demonic interdimensional aliens on board a futuristic space station.
It’s the first time the New York-based company has immortalised an Australian band, and for MC Suffa – aka Matt Lambert – it’s a dream come true.
“I grew up reading Deathlok, X-Force, Spawn and a host of others, and I never thought I’d be able to play a part in putting a comic together” Suffa said.
The band has worked closely with Australian comedian Scott Dooley and comic book writer Andrew Archer to pen the graphic novel, which is illustrated by Jeff Nice.
Archer said from the time he first saw the Hilltop Hoods’ zombie flick Parade of the Dead he knew they were the right band to work with.
“In the comic we throw monsters at them, we drown them in interdimensional ectoplasm and we blast them across a planet in a rocket car,” he said.
“They read our story idea, nodded their heads and said, ‘We love it’. It’s been an absolute dream.”
With ten ARIA awards and six straight Number one albums, the Hilltop Hoods are one of the most successful Australian acts of all time.
Hilltop Hoods Presents Noctis is out in October, and the book and a range of special-edition packages be pre-ordered now at the Z2 website.
