A man who told clients his detox therapies could treat cancer has been banned from providing therapy in Adelaide.
The Health and Community Services Complaints Commissioner Associate Professor Grant Davies issued a Prohibition Order against Peter Karamalis, who offers services in the north of Adelaide.
Following an extensive investigation by Assoc Prof Davies said Mr Karamalis, who offers detox therapies to treat cancer and cancer related symptoms, failed to provide evidence the detox works.
“This is a breach of clause 10 of the Code of Conduct for certain health care workers,” Assoc Prof Davies said.
“This section specifically refers to claims about curing or treating serious illnesses like cancer. The Code exists to address situations like this.
“The health and safety of the South Australian public will always be my paramount consideration in these matters.”
Mr Karamalis was handed an Interim Prohibition Order in late April to allow the investigation which revealed he had breached three clauses of The Code in his services.
A business was registered under Peter Karamalis in the northern suburbs named Bio Detox S.A, was extracted from records today, on September 8.
Assoc Prof Davies urge anyone with concerns to speak to the Health and Community Services Complaints Commission.
