A family-run southern suburbs fruit and veg shop has been named the best in the country for the third time, with its owners saying “good, old-fashioned service” is the key to its success.
Adelaide Fresh Fruiterers at Morphett Vale has taken out the top gong at the National Retailer of the Year Award, beating 500 stores across the country for the title.
Former MasterChef star Callum Hann shared the news to owner Dino Labbozzetta this week, who was overjoyed by the outpouring of support from customers.
Mr Labbozetta said he believed his business, which has 54 employees, was set apart by its customer service and dedication to the local community.
Many of his customers were known to staff by name, he said.
“We’re consistent with everything we do — quality and service are the two most important things ... we’ve build relationships with our customers, some have been here since day one,” he said.
“Some staff have been here 17 or 18 years, they’re like family to us. We listen to what our customers say and give them service that the big supermarkets don’t.”
The A Better Choice awards is an initiative that hopes to prop up local businesses, with the public voting on their favourite retailers through a QR code set up in store.
