A beloved Adelaide watering hole is set to serve its last drinks this month.
Craft Beer Bar and Cafe 55ml have announced it will be shutting its doors on June 29 in a Facebook post this week - and it plans to go out with a bang.
“On the 29th of June we will be celebrating our last night of being your favourite alleyway dive bar,” it said in the post.
“Please bring along as many friends as possible to join the party and we’ll make sure everyone has an awesome time!”
The bar opened more than 8 years ago just off Gouger St in the city and has been serving offerings including beers, cocktails and toasties.
It’s among the latest hospitality venues to permanently shut, following on the heels of queer bar My Lover Cindi’s closure this month. Its owner-operators Rachel Hosking and Kate Toone earlier said the “exorbitant costs” of running a nightclub forced their closure.
The hospitality industry has been pummelled by the cost of living crisis, with many business owners lamenting rising operating costs and reduced customer spending.
Earlier, Adelaide pub and bar owners said a government move to retain the alcohol tax in the federal budget will further hurt the sector, which was already doing it tough.
Peel St bar Malt & Juniper said it has already been forced to charge $14 for a basic gin and tonic.
“That’s not affordable for a lot of people,” managing director Matthew Holding earlier told The Advertiser.
“We charge what we charge because the distiller has to charge what they need to.”
