Adelaide couple share horror baby monitor hacking experience

An Adelaide couple have shared their terrifying experience of a man hacking into their baby monitor and talking to their baby.

Poppy Radbone and her partner Jay Nichaloff, known for their social media presence as Pops and Jay, took to TikTok to share their shock of hearing a man speak through their one-year-old daughter Blossom’s baby monitor.

“Oh my god, our baby monitor got hacked this morning,” Poppy said in the video.

“We woke up to someone talking to our one-year-old on the f***ing camera.”

Jay then went on to say that the incident happened at about 6am when they could hear their daughter waking up in bed.

“Next minute, we just hear this man f***ing start talking to her,” Jay said.

“I was thinking some c**t was in my daughter’s room looking over her.”

Jay said he “started sh*tting himself” and got up to check on his daughter.

“I’ll boot the f***ing door open and I’m ready to swing at this c**t,” he said.

Poppy said the whole experience was “really scary” and the couple “don’t know what to do.”

“Parents, be careful out there because c**ts are hacking into these things and watching,” Jay said.

Comments on the video suggested the couple shouldn’t use a baby monitor through wi-fi, and others sharing their horrific experiences.

“Yes happened to me too – someone was watching it when I was in the room!” one comment said.

A spokesperson for VTech, the baby monitor brand used by the couple, said they take “product safety and data security seriously”.

“It has come to our attention that a customer of our baby monitors has posted a video on social media alleging a potential data security issue.

“We are highly concerned with the incident and have conducted an internal investigation immediately. There is no evidence showing any improper direct access to our baby monitors based upon our preliminary investigation.

“We are committed to protecting our customers’ data. There are proper and comprehensive security measures and policies in place to ensure that our products, data security and privacy protection are compliant with all applicable legal and compliance requirements.”
