Savvy brides who want to save money on their wedding dress won’t have to miss out on the boutique experience when a new pop-up shop comes to Rundle Mall.
Newlywed Sonia Heinrich will host her first Share the Love Bridal event selling preloved gowns at the Hotel Richmond on Friday.
She was inspired to launch the business, which will run a series of events in the city during October and November, after failing to buy a second-hand dress online for her own wedding.
“I’m quite mindful of the environment and also we had a bit of a budget … but I couldn’t commit to any,” she said.
“I’d never tried on a wedding dress … so I ended up purchasing a gown in a boutique.”
After her big day, Mrs Heinrich attempted to sell her dress to recoup some of the cost but said “it sat on a reputable website for nine months”.
“I’ve had lots of girls shortlist it, like it, even comment on it … but I haven’t actually had the sale yet,” she said. “Then came the idea to do Share the Love Bridal.”
Mrs Heinrich said she had amassed “close to 100 dresses” from former brides hoping to sell their gowns. She also has samples and discontinued stock from designers Alexis George and Rapsimo.
“I’ve even got a Vera Wang (dress) in there – there’s a mixed bag and all the dresses are about 50 per cent off,” she said.
Bride-to-be Lauren Allen, of Panorama, said opting for a preloved gown was a “fantastic” option – but she wouldn’t shop for one online because she “would not risk it not fitting”.
“It is more sustainable than everyone buying one dress for one day of their lives,” she said.
“Most people are interested in budget-friendly ideas for weddings, because everything is so expensive.”
