THE newly revealed Adelaide Botanic High School uniform could be a sign of powerful things to come for the inaugural 2019 students.

“My family have commented that it is a bit Port Power but I go for the Crows,’’ said student Leyla, 12, who is one of the first group of students set to start Year 8 at the new $100 million school next year.

“But it’s really cool. I love the colours and it’s really comfortable.

“I think I’ll wear the trousers in winter but mostly the skirt and dress.”

The new uniform features a choice of items available to all students ranging from a jacket, cardigan and long- and short-sleeved shirts to a puffer vest and sports polo.

The design incorporates feedback from leadership students and the uniform aligns with the school dress code that was endorsed by Adelaide Botanic High School’s newly established School Council.

Adelaide Botanic High School principal Alistair Brown said a uniform was important in creating “a sense of identity and belonging among students”.

“Adelaide Botanic High School’s uniform design is modern, practical and comfortable so students can be proud to represent their school while having functional attire in which to learn,’’ he said.

Education Minister John Gardner said the uniform reflected the contemporary nature of the school, “where students will experience a unique learning environment that will give them every opportunity to prosper”.

“Students can wear this uniform with great pride, knowing they will be well presented and prepared for when they enter the workforce to be productive citizens of our state,’’ he said.

Adelaide Botanic High School is SA’s first vertical school and second city high school and will start with Years 8 and 9 students initially, growing to 1250 students by 2022. The school currently has a single shared zone with Adelaide High School, allowing parents within the zone to nominate their preferred city high school.
