In a sign of growing confidence in South Australia’s business market, Adelaide Airport is set to get its first Qantas domestic business lounge.

The space will form part of a new lounge precinct developed by the nation’s flag carrier and include a complete revamp of its current Qantas Club and Chairman’s Lounge.

The work is part of the airline’s $100 million upgrade to its global lounge network.

South Australian Business Chamber chief executive Andrew Kay welcomed the addition to Adelaide Airport amid a rise in business visitors.

“As South Australia’s reputation continues to grow as a great place to do business, we are seeing an increasing number of high-level business people visiting our state,” he said.

“Increased investment from airlines in infrastructure and flight routes into South Australia is very welcome and will only yield positive results.”

Mr Kay anticipated the facility will “create a positive first and last impression on travellers coming here to do business”.

Qantas said its lounge precinct is set to remain the same in size, but the carrier will be repurposing underused spaces to increase seating capacity by more than 10 per cent.

It added that the precinct interior will “be inspired by the beauty” of South Australian culture, food and landscapes, including the Kangaroo Island’s Flinders Chase National Park.

Qantas Product and Service executive manager Phil Capps said the lounge upgrades reflect the needs of customers flying from Adelaide as well as excellence in South Australian architectural and interior design.

“Our local design philosophy means the new Adelaide Lounge Precinct will celebrate the best of South Australia,” he said.

“We’re installing extra seating throughout the precinct to provide more space to work and around 80 per cent of seats will have access to power stations and device ports so customers can easily charge up before their flight.”

Construction on the new precinct will start this month, with the first stage to include a fit-out of the Qantas Club. It is scheduled to open in mid-November while the domestic business lounge is expected to be up and running mid-next year.

The current Qantas Club will continue to operate for eligible customers during the construction phase.
