Adelaide 500 may have an international performance this December

A big-name international artist is being sought to head up the entertainment section of the Adelaide 500 race, due to take place in December. Who do you want to see on stage?

Talks to lure an international act to headline the Adelaide 500 after-party have started, with new V8 race boss Andrew Daniels on the phone to London even before the formal announcement he had the job.

The Victoria Park Covid testing station will close to make way for the race, after being SA Health’s major drive-through testing station through most of the pandemic.

Premier Peter Malinauskas has already ordered SA Health to “start looking at other options” to replace the centre.

As revealed by the Sunday Mail, Mr Malinauskas has announced Stadium Management Authority chief executive Mr Daniels will chair the new SA Motorsport Board – past jobs include boss of the original SA Motorsport Board, which staged the Clipsal 500.

Mr Daniels said he was on the phone to a music promoter in London on Saturday night sounding out potential headline acts.

“We’re putting out all sorts of inquiries right now,” he said.

Mr Malinauskas predicted the race concert would be as good as any held at past events.

“(We’ve) been in active discussions with major promoters throughout the country for major acts and we are very confident that (we) can put on great music that is associated with the Adelaide 500.”

Mr Malinauskas confirmed there had been interest in potential sponsorship for the festival, and the government was in talks with companies to lease equipment for the event.
