Adelaide 500: Hunt for new sponsor delays ticket sales
THE hunt for a new naming rights sponsor for next March’s Adelaide 500 has delayed ticket sales.
- Government happy to wait for best naming rights offer
- V8 race earns $545.8 million for SA economy
- 2018 500 launches without a naming rights sponsor
- Clipsal drops 500 sponsorship
THE Adelaide 500 will have a new name before tickets go on sale, the Government says.
Tickets to next year’s event have been held off as the SA Tourism Commission tries to clinch a deal with a new naming rights sponsor.
Tourism Minister David Ridgway told Budget Estimates the new sponsor would “soon” sign a long-term deal.
The event will run without a $2.9 million funding injection provided by the former Government for last year’s event – its 20th anniversary.
The 500 was held without a naming rights sponsor last year after Clipsal ended its 18-year association with the motor race.
SA Tourism Commission events director Hitaf Rasheed said the discussions with a new sponsor and this year’s state election had delayed the release of tickets, but planned for the event to launch by early November.
Tickets to the general public are still planned to go on sale in November even if talks with a naming rights sponsor fall over.
