ANGELIKA Gavare takes offence to being called a killer - but prosecutors say the truth really irks her.

Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Pallaras, QC, yesterday cross-examined Gavare, who says she is innocent of the murder of Vonne McGlynn.

He said that Gavare's mother and sister, who gave evidence against her, were reliable witnesses - unlike her.

"You are a good liar, and lying comes easily to you," Mr Pallaras said.

"What really offends you is that your mother and sister had the courage you do not, and that's to tell the truth."

Gavare rejected that submission. "I have always insisted on my innocence, I had nothing to do with Vonne McGlynn's death," she said.

"With my family, I do not want to discuss what happened on the third of December.

"I always said to my family, 'Once I speak to my lawyers, the truth will come out'."

Gavare, 35, has pleaded not guilty to murdering and dismembering the pensioner, 82, on or about December 3, 2008.

Prosecutors have alleged she was motivated by greed, wanting to keep Ms McGlynn's possessions and sell her home for a profit.

Gavare has claimed that Ms McGlynn died in a hit-and-run crash with her ex-boyfriend, Giuseppe Daniele.

She has said Mr Daniele forced her to help stage a robbery to cover up the death, and that she subsequently decided to steal the dead woman's home and property.

Mr Daniele is not, and has never been, charged with any offence relating to Ms McGlynn.

Yesterday, Mr Pallaras said Gavare killed Ms McGlynn to improve her own life.

He said she had compiled a long "wish list" of financial goals, including overseas holidays, a plasma TV and private schooling for her two daughters.

"For your plan to work, Vonne McGlynn had to disappear very quickly ... she had to be gone," he said.

"You couldn't turn up at a bank and say 'Ms McGlynn has given me authority to take money from this account' if she then turned up dead in a backyard."
