A teenage son is being hailed a hero after alerting his entire family and saving them from a horrifying house fire that completely destroyed their western-suburbs home overnight.
Emergency crews were called to the home on Southern Cross Ave, North Haven at 12.15am on Thursday, after a house had erupted in flames.
A 19-year-old woke to flames at the end of his bed, before quickly jumping up and waking his mother, father, younger brother and pet dog up and ushering them outside, his mother said.
Mother, Amy told 7News Adelaide she believed the cause of the fire was either an “electric blanket” or “powerboard” in her teenage son’s room.
“He woke up to flames at the end of his bed,” she said.
“His electric mattress had caught on fire, or something there at the end of the bed, the powerboard or something like that.

“He came and banged on our window very loudly and screamed at us, and I opened the curtain to see the flames, and then he came through the other door and came and got the dog, and helped me go and get my youngest son.
“He alerted us and then he helped us all get out, ushered us all out of the house (and) made sure we got our youngest son out as well, and the dog.
Amy described the incident as “absolutely terrifying”, with the family also taken to hospital and treated after suffering smoke inhalation.
Despite the entire home being completely destroyed in the blaze, she hailed the heroic efforts of her son.
“(My son was) just incredible, brave, heroic … amazing. We’re so proud of him,” she said.
A neighbour and retired firefighter told 7News he thought there would be no survivors.
“I was concerned and feared for the people inside,“ he said.
“I’ve seen many fire deaths in my time.”
MFS crews battled the blaze for about 45 minutes before it was contained.
Police said the cause of the fire was not suspicious.
The estimated cost of damage to the home and property is around $800,000.
