About 130 jobs on offer for new dementia care village at Repat

Up to 130 staff with a range of skills are wanted ahead of the official opening of a new dementia care village at Daw Park – the first of its kind in South Australia.

HammondCare is looking for registered nurses, nursing assistants, administrative staff, pastoral care workers, volunteer co-ordinators, education officers and other roles over the coming months.

The provider will open a dementia care village at the Repat Health Precinct on August 15, before the first residents move in from late August.

It will accommodate up to 70 residents with varying dementia needs.

The centre, built with support from the state government, is made up of six cottages for nine-15 residents and has been constructed around a village green and plaza area.

Residential manager Carley Watson said she was looking to recruit a team passionate about improving the quality of life of people in need.

“The end goal here is for all the team to be part of offering the highest quality of care for people living with dementia in SA,” she said.

“It’s exciting to be able to make this happen from the ground up.”

Among the first staff to be appointed was Meher Limbu, 27, who took up the role of critical care manager earlier this month.

Mrs Limbu is a registered nurse who decided to focus on aged care during a 12-month stint in acute care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“This is such a big learning opportunity for me,” she said.

“I think I have really found my calling – it is working in aged care and caring for those in need.”
