A venomous snake has been pulled from netting at Mount Compass

A snake that was presumed dead and tangled in netting has given a Mount Compass resident a shock before being caught.

Snake Catchers Adelaide find a brown snake in a shed.

A huge deadly snake has been caught in Mount Compass by iconic snake catcher Ange Broadstock.

A Mount Compass resident called Snake Catchers Adelaide on Wednesday around 11.30am to remove a big red-bellied black snake caught in netting.

“He wouldn’t have made it through the day otherwise,” Ms Broadstock told The Advertiser.

This particular resident has called the snake catchers before, often finding these venomous snakes on her property.

The resident told Ms Broadstock her neighbour installed the netting to prevent snakes entering their property and she thought this snake was dead.

“But the snake was very much alive,” Ms Broadstock said.

The seasoned catcher spent time removing the netting from a branch and proceeded to hold the snakes head and she cut him out.

“It was quite tricky,” she said.

The snake was around 1.2 metres and is currently being held at Snake Catchers Adelaide’s offices before Ms Broadstock will release him back to his natural habitat.

“He didn’t show any indication of damage,” Ms Broadstock said.

The snake catcher said snake season as been “pretty good” so far and red-bellies are often the snake found in the region.

“Mount Compass is red-belly territory,” she said.

The venomous snake is known to be potentially deadly to people.
