SA Police has congratulated this year’s school leavers, noting only one arrest across the three-day Schoolies Festival at Victor Harbor.
More than 40 fines – including two for cannabis-related offences – and five traffic infringements were also handed out.
Superintendent Julie Thomas, police commander for Schoolies Festival, said the overall behaviour of attending was positive.
“SAPOL congratulates the classes of 2022 for choosing to celebrate Schoolies Festival safely,” she said.
“For an event of this scale in the small township of Victor Harbor, police are happy that there were no major incidents over the weekend.”
About 5000 year 12 students attended the festival, with 3000 descending on the event on Friday night.
The single arrest occurred around 7pm on Saturday night.
A 41-year-old man was arrested for property damage after an altercation at the front of the Hotel Crown.
The man was seen allegedly punching a window after an interaction with Schoolies-goers.
Victor Harbor local Leigh Hart, 44, tried his best to stop the man who he said was “picking on the young guys at the table.”
“He was mouthing off at the kids – I could see something wasn’t right and it was getting a bit hectic.”

Mr Hart said he saw the man trying to cause trouble with Schoolies-goers.
“It was unnecessary, he antagonised them,” he said. “They didn’t do anything wrong. You can’t ruin their night.”
Mr Hart said the Schoolies s were grateful after he intervened and stopped the situation escalating.
It follows news some of Immanuel College’s newly-graduated year 12 students sparked controversy in choosing to wear tops incorporating the school name, vulgar language and a Coopers label.
