A backwards cap and RMs: How you can get David Speirs’ airport look for less

Rocking a backwards hat after landing back in SA, the former opposition leader looks like he was inspired by some snapback wearing legends. Here’s how you can get the Speirs look.

The Advertiser, 7NEWS Adelaide: Speirs returns to SA, CBD apartment attack

David Speirs’ choice of outfit turned heads as he touched down at Adelaide airport on Tuesday morning.

If you’re looking to recreate the former South Australian liberal leader’s kicked-back casual look, we have done the research to show how you can do it for less.

Mr Speirs’ choice of a neutral hoodie was an inspired choice for aeroplane attire.

However, the embroidered branding has left us scratching our heads. Luckily, you can get a close replica of the Scotsman’s mystery pullover from Cotton On for under $35.

Comfort was clearly not a priority for Mr Speirs after he selected a pair of dark wash jeans for his over 24 hours of travelling.

If you are also hoping to remain in a state of discomfort during your next overseas trip, swing past Target for a $45 pair.

Mr Speirs recently said ‘bye, bye, bye’ to his position at the top of the SA libs and it seems his passion for boy bands is now influencing his fashion choices.

While the backwards cap may have been a last-minute attempt to cover up some serious plane-hair, nothing says “I just got back from holiday” like a hat being worn the wrong way around.

Temu has navy blue caps for $4.47 so you too can embody this relaxed to the max vibe.

In true young liberal form, Mr Speirs could not look past his trusty RM Williams boots to see him through his journey back to Australia.

A pair of the iconic boots usually cost a hefty $649.00, but Kmart has something similar for a cool $35.00.

Mr Speirs opted for a cross body bag from Bellroy who are currently promoting a bag and backpack set for $219.

You can save your holiday money by buying your carry on luggage from Amazon with prices starting from $22.

Finally, the modern man would not be complete without his Apple watch, which usually costs $349.00.

Who wore the backwards cap better?

There’s no criticising David Speirs’ choice of casual and comfy clothes when faced with a 24 – plus hour flight across theglobe.

And despite fizzing out in the mid naughties, you can still find the odd baseball cap reversed being worn around town.

So, who wore it better?

Limp Bizkit lead singer Fred Durst wore his signature cap in reverse.

Luke Danes ran his cafe in Stars Hollow and won the heart of Lorelai Gilmore without ever taking off his backwards cap.

And hey, if it’s good enough for Thor, you can bet your Mjolnir its good enough for Speirs.

So C’mon! Adelaide, channel your inner Lleyton and throwback to the 90s in your backwards cap.
