A SURFING instructor saved the life of a 16-year-old girl at Middleton on Thursday, performing CPR after the teen was pulled from the water during a lesson with her high school class.
She was on Wednesday evening in a serious but stable condition after the near-drowning incident.
Emergency services were called to Middleton Point just after 11.30am.
The girl was plucked from the rough water and the instructor began performing CPR before paramedics arrived.
Paramedics were able to stabilise the girl before she was flown by helicopter to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide in a semi-conscious state.
She was later transferred to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Police also attended the scene.
The surfing lesson was run by a private program not associated with Surf Life Saving SA.
