Two Riverland men, aged 65 and 56, charged over alleged historic child sex offences

Two Riverland men have been charged over separate unrelated child sex offences – one dating back to the late 90s.

A man from the state’s northeast has been charged over child sex offences allegedly committed in the 90s.

On Monday, detectives arrested a 66-year-old from the Riverland, and subsequently charged him with maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with two children, and possession of child exploitation material.

South Australian Police said the incidents allegedly happened in the late 1990s, however they have not disclosed any further information about the victims or the offence.

The man was bailed to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on September 2.

Police are urging members of the public who have information about people involved in child sex offences to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via their website.

In another unrelated incident, a 56-year-old Riverland man has been charged over alleged sexual offences, dating back over 20 years ago.

Following an ongoing investigation, Berri Detectives in conjunction with the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team arrested for alleged offences that occurred between 2002 to 2018.

He was charged with two counts of maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child and two counts of procuring a child for a sexual purpose.

He appeared at the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
