A $10m, 64-bed nursing home is on its way to Normanville, after the local planning panel approved the development.

The Fleurieu Regional Assessment Panel has given Grandeur Care’s proposal for St Andrews Boulevard the green light.

The two-storey development includes rooms for 64 residents, along with a gym area, function, nursing, lounge and dining rooms and space for a hairdresser and physiotherapist.

Executive director Abhishek Singh said the family-owned company would address a shortage in aged care facilities in the area, as some locals now moved to Victor Harbor when they needed extra support.

The business will offer aged care, dementia care and respite and also wants to offer support to people in their homes.

Mr Singh said construction work would be at least 12 months away, and it was hoped the centre would be operational in 2024, though in-home care could begin early next year.

Once the nursing home opens, it will provide jobs for about 30 people.

Mr Singh, who is building a holiday home in the area, said the business chose the location near the The Links Lady Bay Golf Resort after discussions with his parents and their friends.

“They said if I’m going to retire, why wouldn’t you have something that feels like a holiday home and hence we’ve gone with a small model not something with a big, monstrous institution-type feel to it,” he said.

Grandeur Care is owned by two family trusts – Madrouni Family Trust and Dev Family Trust.

Its next step is to receive approval from the Federal Government as an aged care service provider.
