24 Power Fit in Plympton Park slammed for closing days after signing up new members

The new gym’s Facebook page has been inundated with comments from angry members who are now demanding answers and a full refund.

An Adelaide gym has been slammed for closing days after signing up new members with an “amazing special” membership deal

The 24 Power Fit gym, located in Plympton Park, offered an end-of-financial-year membership deal in June.

A few days later it was closed and the gym has remained shut since, with many members saying they’ve been unable to get a refund.

Bradley Muller told The Advertiser that he had been unsuccessfully trying to contact the gym since its closure.

“I’ve been trying to get information out of them for weeks, but they don’t reply and haven’t made any effort to give us a refund,” he said.

The gym, which was formerly Revive Fitness Centre, changed hands in early June.

Not only did the name of the gym change to 24 Power Fit, but a six-month membership for $230 was offered on Facebook on June 19.

Mr Muller said the gym initially opened but there was building work happening when members were trying to work out.

“We were in the cardio room while they were using Jack hammers and power tools ripping up the floor and taking bricks rubbish out,” he explained.

“We actually had to stop working out early that day because it was hard to breathe in the gym and all they offered us where cheap face masks and ear plugs.”

By June 26, a second social media post said the gym was closing for a “short time” and asked for members to be patience.

In a statement to members at the time, it read: “We have just been provided a report by the appropriate authorities who are overlooking current renovations that warrant us to remain closed for a further seven days.

“Please note that all memberships have been placed on suspension at this time. This will remain the case until the gym reopens.”

Since then, the post has seen an influx of comments from furious members demanding a refund or clarity of when the gym will be open.

Morwena Davies wrote on Facebook, “Sent email last Sunday regarding a refund, no response to date. Very disappointing as I have been a member of Revive in excess of 20 years.”

While Rob Segnan also commented, “I was told via email my refund was approved and had been sent to your accounts team. This was 3 weeks ago. I’ve not received anything.”

On June 28, the gym posted its last communications, stating that they were “doing everything in our power to get 24 Power Fit up and running”.

But again, the post attracted more messages from members asking for refunds and replies to emails, including one members who said she wanted her rolling contract cancelled.

Lauren Brooke Tait wrote: “I’m on a direct debit plan just joined just before closure and want to be released from contract.”

Jill Clausen also stated, “Yep they deleted the most recent post with all our concerns and they won’t respond to emails.”

24 Power Fit management said they had performed many refunds where requested and wanted “no members to be in financial distress with a situation out of our control”.
